When tens of thousands of fans pour into Kroger Field on a Saturday to cheer for the Wildcats, few realize the coordinated effort that helps keep every light on, every restroom clean and running, every lawn trimmed and every walkway safe. Behind the roar of the crowd during the football season is a team of nearly 100 Facilities Management employees from groundskeepers, electricians and custodians to plumbers and technicians, whose behind-the-scenes work helps make game day possible.
A new kind of store is opening on the University of Kentucky campus, but instead of ringing up purchases, all items are free for UK students. The Thrifty Cat, UK’s first-ever campus free store, will officially open its doors Friday, Oct. 17, with a grand opening event from 3-4:30 p.m. between Blazer Dining and Holmes Hall. Students are invited to browse shelves of gently used clothing, school supplies, dorm and apartment essentials, and other items — all at no cost.
University of Kentucky Recycling has implemented new initiatives for the 2025 football season to support their long-term goal of making Kroger Field a zero-waste facility by 2030. This season, UK Recycling is expanding fan engagement.
