The Thrifty Cat

The Thrifty Cat’s mission is to support the University’s goal to become a zero-waste campus and address economic disparity by offering donated items like clothing, furniture, dorm essentials, and textbooks for free to UK students to find them a new home in the community.

How it works!

UK students can check out items during our open hours for free with no cap to the number of items you can take. All available merchandise is made possible through donations. Please bring your own tote or reusable bag. The Thrifty Cat does not provide bags or transportation of larger items.

Have items to donate?

Anyone can stop by with gently used donations when Blazer Dining is open, between 7am and 6pm Monday through Friday. Please leave donations in one of the provided collection bins inside Blazer Dining to the right of the store’s indoor entrance. If you have more than a few items or have large items to donate, please reach out to Ryan Lark (rpla223@uky.edu) to schedule a drop off time via email so your donations do not block the hallway.

We do not accept undergarments, bedding, stained or broken items, or UK property.

Our Location

The Thrifty Cat is located in the basement of Blazer Dining in room 5, the former Wildcat Wheels space.

What will you find?

What The Thrifty Cat will offer in store depends on our donations. We have an update list of available inventory categories inside Thrifty Cat.
