Object of Game

To capture all of opponent’s checkers or make it so opponent has no available moves

Basic Rules

  • Pieces
    • One player uses 12 white pieces and the other player uses 12 black pieces. The player with the black pieces moves first, this can be determined by tossing a coin
    • Alternate turns between two players
    • Each player arranges pieces ONLY on the black squares of the first three rows of the board
  • How to move
    • All the single pieces can only move one space forward diagonally and cannot move backwards
    • Pieces must stay on the black squares
    • Kings can move forward and backwards
  • Jump and capture opponent's checkers
    • You can only jump a checker if it is located in the diagonal space nearest to your opponent’s checker
    • You can make a multiple jump with one piece only by jumping to an empty black square and then to another empty black square
    • If a jump is available, you must take the jump
    • If you manage to get a checker to the end of your opponent’s side of the board, your opponent has to “crown you” by taking one your captured checkers and place it on top, which becomes your king
  • How the game ends
    • The first player to lose all of his/her pieces loses the game
    • If a player is put in a position where they cannot move, they lose
    • If the players have the same number of pieces and no one has available moves, the player with most kings wins
    • If both players have the same number of pieces and kings and no one has available moves, the game is a draw
